Fighter and ground attack aircraft. Used by the US, Israel, Japan, Korea and Singapore. Developed by McDonnell Douglas and still in production by Boeing.
Boeing F-18 Hornet
Fighter and ground attack aircraft developed by McDonnell Douglas for the US Navy but also used as a land-based fighter by some other countries. Still in production by Boeing.
Boeing/BAE Systems Harrier
Fighter and ground-attack aircraft capable of vertical takeoff and landing thanks to its thrust-vectoring jet nozzles. Originally developed in Britain but the US took the lead in the type's later development. Out of production but still in use.
Eurofighter EF2000 Typhoon
Advanced fighter aircraft developed jointly by Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain. In production and in service following a protracted development period.
General Dynamics F-111 Aardvark
Tactical strike aircraft. Replaced by the F-15E Strike Eagle in USAF service. Still used by Australia, which will however retire the type in 2010. Out of production.
Lockheed Martin F-16 Fighting Falcon
Highly successful fighter and ground-attack aircraft developed by General Dynamics, which later sold the production line to Lockheed Martin. Still in production and in use in a large number of countries.
Mikoyan MiG-29/35
Fighter aircraft designed by the Mikoyan design bureau and still in production by Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG. The advanced MiG-35 variant is under development.
Panavia Tornado
Tactical strike aircraft and fighter jointly developed by the UK, Germany and Italy. Out of production but still in use.
Saab JAS 39 Gripen
Light fighter and ground attack aircraft in service with the Swedish, Czech, Hungarian and South African air forces. Still in production.
